COMMON SENSES

The 7th Monologue Festival believes in cohesion! What is it that could reconnect us as a community? Do we need stronger empathy, clearer insight into the necessity of the matter or more non-sense? Every festival evening several solo artists enter the ring of emotions, knowledge, and the question of agreement.

Tempers are running high, dialogue is becoming more difficult. How can someone in a monologue develop a position that can be connected and build bridges from “I” towards “we"? Perhaps out of the awareness of a common vulnerability: the Sense of Common as a sense of commonality to be newly explored and trained, the source of new solidarities.

Premiere
CHINCHILLA SPIN-OFF, waswas
“No intention - just Tourette’s,” Christian Hempel hastily sends ahead when he is around people. His rants and motor outbursts are not controllable. They are reactions to the world in which he moves and challenge it.
Premiere
KHARKIV CALLING
In August 2022, the Berlin Costa Compagnie conducted research in Eastern Ukraine. In Kharkiv, as well as at the near front, they interviewed four women who volunteered for the armed struggle against the Russian attack and the autocratic system that came with it. The examination of the material raises the question: What would we do?
Premiere
I’M STILL GOLDEN (MIR GEHT’S JA NOCH GOLD)
Marianne Hoppe flirted with the KPD of the Weimar Republic. She sat in the cinema with Göring, Goebbels and Hitler and remained the figurehead of state-supporting art after 1945. How does she explain that? And to us? Eleganz aus Reflex explores irritating paths of justification along emotional worlds and German sensitivities.
Premiere
LIE WITH ME
The performance seeks new ways of understanding and is an invitation to get in bed with each other, be vulnerable, and explore the Common Senses that define our desire. Glossy Pain draws attention to lies, legends and narratives that shape our sexual lives.
Premiere
NO MAN IS AN iSLAND
Should my robot be like me? Playing with science, fiction and a companionship bot, Post Theater and Taiwanese performer Po Fu Wu explore the nature of our new companions in a not-too-distant future.
Premiere
COMMON THINGS
What do the things we accumulate over the course of our lives reveal about our origins, our thinking, the time from which they came? Frank, white middle-aged western academic, rearranges his favorite pieces, heirlooms, and skeletons in the closet against the backdrop of the zeitgeist with the help of the audience.
Premiere
VERONIKA and the essence of humanity. Reloaded!
tutti d*amore has entered into a dialogue with an AI and asked whether it has the desire to be human. The result is the character VERONIKA, who as the protagonist of a miniature opera questions the sense and nonsense of COMMON SENSES and thus also what distinguishes them from us humans.
Premiere
SAY HI TO ME!
The impulse for this live solo within an audio installation was the real-life escape of the young Cuban woman Sandra de los Santos, who had herself shipped via DHL as a ship’s propeller in a wooden crate from Havana to Miami. How does the story continue to write itself at the moment of arrival?
Special
Festival Opening Impulse
“He can bring down thought structures that support our everyday life with just a few sentences,” writes DIE ZEIT about the philosopher Byung-Chul Han. On the occasion of the 7th Monologue Festival opening, he reflects on the idea of a Common Sense in the TD. With his opening impulse we celebrate the “collapse” to build new realms of thought, theses, and stories on the resulting barren ground.
Special
RADIOSHOW - COMMON-SENSOTHEK
What does the common sense sound like and who will hold it in the future? Radio host and DJ Godton Flash broadcasts the answers in the form of songs live from the future. The transmission from Quadrant C-Alpha-Communis to the space-time continuum of TD Berlin takes place uniquely under heightened security measures and for the first time in front of witnesses.
Special
Climate activism targeted by right-wing campaigns - Lecture
The AfD not only sits in parliaments, but also stands anxiously in the forest. While the activist ecology movement in the German-speaking world is currently largely progressive, the political right responds with actions and attacks, attempting to co-opt the issue for themselves.
Special
Every evening:
Dialogue and dance emerge at the edges of the monologue. With this in mind, we invite visitors and artists to engage in conversation while lingering, eating, and socializing together. The stage setting will be extended into a social resonance space: a floating light-space installation with bar, music, DJs, specials, and delicious discourse cuisine is created especially for the festival.
MY DANGEROUS POEM
The performances of “My Threatening Poem” within the framework of the Monologue Festival do not take place.
