Program

8 premieres under the heading COMMON SENSES shift perspectives and reflect the status quo of our social interactions. Guests from philosophy and science stimulate our thinking with impulses. You can also expect a “kiosk of unfulfilled wishes”, a floating light-space installation, bar, music, DJs and appetizers in the Discourse Kitchen.

Audience members can experience several short monologues and specials in close succession each evening – we recommend day tickets for the best festival experience.

In addition to the festival trailer, you can find Byung-Chul Han’s opening speech as a video as well as selected press reviews of the festival here.

What do the things we accumulate over the course of our lives reveal about our origins, our thinking, the time from which they came? Frank, white middle-aged western academic, rearranges his favorite pieces, heirlooms, and skeletons in the closet against the backdrop of the zeitgeist with the help of the audience.

Frank is in his mid-40s and doesn’t like to throw things away. His Neukölln apartment is filled with things from different phases of his life. Now his father has also passed away and new mementosand heirlooms are being added. What value does this or that thing still have for him or for others? Some of them used to be a central part of his identity, but today he sees them in a different light.

With COMMON THINGS Turbo Pascal create a solo in which Frank deals with the different social voices in his head. What goes on the shelf, what better stays in the closet, what can or must go in the trash? And what should perhaps be passed on one day? Can the audience help him?*

The solo is not only an inventory of Frank’s personal legacy, but also a commentary on flexibility and adaptability in an ever-changing world. How does our view of the thingssurroundingus and our own biography change when common sense is transformed? With which inner resistances are learning processes connected? How often is one willing to change in the course of a lifetime?

* You need a smartphone with mobile data to participate in the interaction.

As a collective, Turbo Pascal develops polyphonic, interactive performances that turn the theater into an assembly and negotiation space for social processes, dynamics and utopias. In addition, the collective realizes participatory projects and conceives formats of conversation and communication. The collective has been based in Berlin since 2008 and works in the independent scene and at municipal and state theaters. “Böse Häuser” was invited to the Stückemarkt of the Berlin Theatertreffen in 2018, and in the same year Turbo Pascal was awarded the George Tabori Promotion Prize. The interactive play “Unterscheidet euch” received the Ikarus Prize in 2019 and was invited to the festival Augenblick Mal! (2020), the Impulse Theater Festival (2021) and the Ruhrtriennale
(2021). www.turbopascal.info
